Three Months After Surgery

It's me. I'm the problem. (Taylor Swift)

You either have to be part of the solution, or you're going to be part of the problem.  (Eldridge Cleaver)

Three months to the day after partial-knee replacement, I have to face up to the fact that while progress has been made, I'm not where I want to be.  As a result, I've decided to reduce physical activity and resume pain medication.

  • Prior to surgery, I rode my bike for six miles nearly every weekday morning, weather permitting. I'll reduce the distance to five miles and the frequency to three times a week, on days that I don't swim.
  • Prior to surgery, I swam 50 laps every other day.  Going forward, I'll swim only three times a week.
  • Prior to surgery, I walked at least 5 miles every other day.  Going forward, I'll walk only three times a week and I'll stop if I experience discomfort.
  • I will resume taking 15 mg of meloxicam daily for a week to determine if it makes even reduced physical activity more comfortable.  If it does, I will discuss with my physician the pros and cons of continued use with my internist when the current prescription depletes.
